Mandaluyong City Cong. Neptali M. Gonzales II will be giving out free packs of rice to a total of 10,00 beneficiaries on August 30, 2008, as a form of thanksgiving to his constituents for his birth anniversary today (August 29). Spending about P.6 million for this rice-giving activity, he said he wanted to reach out to his poorest constituents at this difficult time where rice starts to become unaffordable to most. His intended beneficiaries for this project are the 250 street sweepers of the city as well as the 10,000 indigent families from Barangay Addition Hills. The street sweepers will be receiving ten-kilo packs of rice each, he said, while he will be distributing 5-kilo rice packs to indigent beneficiaries from Addition Hills. In cooperation with the National Food Authority, he decided to pursue the project in lieu of having a lavish birthday reception with city officials and employees in the city hall. Rather than spend for a party with my city hall family, IId rather that I share the blessings with the poorest of the poor,, Gonzales said. At the very least, the rice will translate to having sure food on the table for several days.. There are three sites for the distribution tomorrow (Saturday), namely: Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, Integrated Senior Citizenns Center, and Jose Fabella Memorial School. The street sweepers on the other hand will receive their share today. The weeklong birthday celebration of Gonzales is, as with the past years, replete with pro-people project launchings and inaugurations. Two (2) social infrastructure projects were inaugurated and blessed with total cost of completion amounting to PhP 74.5 million. These are the barangay fire station in Addition Hills and the Highway Hills Integrated School. Five (5) more projects were officially opened this week with a total budget of PhP113 million, namely: two (2) covered courts in Addition Hills, additional school buildings in Barangka Ilaya and Hagdan Bato Itaas, and a barangay hall for Harapin ang Bukas.
