Gonzales distributes PhP17M subsidy to city schools - 9/1/2008
by: Lee A. Chan
As part of his commitment to quality education in the city's public schools, Mandaluyong City Cong. Neptali M. Gonzales II pumped unto the city schools a total of PhP17 million in form of school facilities and equipment that shall increase efficiency and level of quality of the cityys public education. Computers, photocopying machines, multi-media projectors, reading materials for the library, and other office equipment will be turned over by Gonzales to 20 public schools administration in Mandaluyong starting this week. Gonzales revealed schools would get varying amounts of assistance depending on their needs. City high schools would get as much as PhP2 million each, while elementary schools get an average of PhP700,000 each. The Highway Hills Integrated School was the first to receive the equipment subsidy last Tuesday amounting to PhP1.4M. This includes one (1) LCD projector, 35 computer units with printers, one (1) sound system, and one (1) photocopier machine. This school equipment subsidy is a must for Gonzales who, over his 13-year leadership in Mandaluyong made education his topmost area of concern. I have made it my commitment to my constituents in Mandaluyong that as long as I have the capacity to do so, I will put all-out support to the cityys public education system,, Gonzales said. Public education donnt mean inferior education, at least I wonnt let that happen in my district, as I make sure we have enough classrooms and equipment for the students and teachers.. Gonzales said he tries to provide solutions to education issues as they happen. Current problems should be addressed as soon as possible or else they result to far greater consequences that could be beyond repair already or take a lifetime to correct,, he continued. Since February this year, he has started with two (2) major school rehabilitation projects costing at least PhP242 million: the P. Cruz Elementary School, and the Eulogio Rodriguez Integrated School. Through his funding initiatives, he is again set to start this month the construction of additional school buildings in two (2) more schools to ensure the high level of education efficiency in the city. These are the Ilaya Barangka Elementary School and the Dona Pilar Gonzaga Elementary School with a combined project costing of PhP104 million. Just last week, he inaugurated the newly completed Highway Hills Integrated School where he spent PhP72.2 million. (30)
