Cong. Gonzales turns over PhP13.3M worth of facilities to select city barangays Barangays got ambulance, patrol vehicles, fire trucks Mandaluyong City Congressman Neptali M. Gonzales II recently turned over three fire trucks, ambulance and a patrol vehicle to select city barangays in his efforts to further enhance barangay self-efficiency and empowerment in his district. In addition, he led in the blessing and inauguration of three newly-completed barangay infrastructure projects funded through his initiative this year: the renovation of the barangay Malamig Barangay Hall (PhP4million), the renovation of Bagong Silang Covered Court (PhP1.6million), and the construction of the Pag-Asa Barangay Hall (PhP4million). Barangays Highway Hills and Mabini-J.Rizal got one unit of Fire Truck worth PhP1 million each complete with firefighting gears like jackets, helmets, boots and hoses. Earlier last month, barangays Addition Hills and Barangka Drive were the first recipients of barangay fire trucks provided by the congressman. Gonzales thought of providing barangay fire trucks to these areas because of their population density as well as increased records of fire incidences in the past. Barangay Fire Trucks should be the first aid of these barangays and their neighboring areas as well during fire emergencies,, Gonzales said. Therees no need to wait for the city fire fighters if the barangay can act on it at the earliest possible time and can therefore curb what would lead to catastrophic damage to property and lives.. Barangay Barangka Itaas, which is adjacent to Barangka Drive, on the other hand got a barangay ambulance. Barangay Captain Danny Ocampo said an ambulance is what they need most in their community to service the residents on health emergencies. Meanwhile, barangay Burol got a patrol service vehicle to strengthen their peace and order efforts especially at night. Among the six barangays who received projects from the initiative of Gonzales, residents and local officials of Barangay Pag-Asa were the most ecstatic with the fast completion of their brand-new barangay hall. Pag-Asa has been without a barangay hall for almost 30 years, and Barangay Captain Tracy Roy Domingo requested the project from Gonzales in June this year. In only about four months, the new 2-storey barangay center was finally completed costing PhP4 million. Gonzales said these facilities are part of his PhP650 million worth of total projects he initiated for Mandaluyong since he assumed office in July 2007. Next year, he said he has lined up PhP550 million worth of projects that are sure to benefit the various sectors in Mandaluyong such as education, health, infrastructure, and peace and order. (30)
